The original show that introduced “Sister” to Pittsburgh is back! Late Nite Catechism runs in City Theatre’s Hamburg Studio through May 11, 2008. Acclaimed actress Kimberly Richards returns in this phenomenally popular show written by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan.
Late Nite Catechism is an entertaining mix of nostalgia, comedy, and Catholic dogma. The theatre becomes a catechism class taught by Sister and the audience members are her students, who are disciplined or rewarded for their behavior. Sister often “fines” her students for tardiness, gum chewing, and general unruly behavior. Those who are good and can correctly answer questions about saints, May Crowning, pagan babies and limbo (the half-way house between heaven and hell not the dance), may receive fabulous prizes such as glow-in-the-dark rosaries and Mary magnets.
Late Nite Catechism made its Pittsburgh debut in April of 2005 and drew record-breaking crowds. It returned in 2006 and 2007 for highly successful runs. City Theatre has also produced the holiday hit Sister’s Christmas Catechism and Late Nite Catechism 2: Sometimes We Feel Guilty Because We Are Guilty.
